about
I Feel Fine is the third single from Alice Cotton's upcoming debut self-titled EP.
About the track, Cotton writes:
It's about that almost comically painful mismatch at the end of a relationship, where one person is holding on tight, heartbroken, but you have mentally checked out and are just breezing along with your mates. You’re having all these reflective conversations about the state of your relationship but, in reality, you don’t want to deal with anymore big emotions and have started thinking about snacks. You are sort of weirded out at how fantastically well you seem to be managing this whole break up. And then of course, a few months down the track, you are increasingly frantic in reassuring yourself and everyone around you with just how fine you are.
It's got a kind of frenetic feel as the song goes on because I was actually in a huge mess after the breakup but I didn’t want to engage anymore. The song would probably be better titled ‘How to Repress Your Feelings for a Good Six Months or So’.
lyrics
You get high and you
Come alive then you
Get tired and I
Wonder what I said
You’re not sleeping in my bed
I’m winding down but you’re
Gearing up and I’m
Pulling back while you’re
Planning our next move
All I think about is food
And you seem so sad
But I don’t feel that bad
You fat-shame and you
Think gay’s a game and you
Police my words but you
Haven’t heard what I said
You’re not sleeping in my bed
I’m winding down but you’re
Gearing up and I’m
Pulling back while you’re
Planning our next move
All I think about is food
And you seem so sad
But I don’t feel that bad
I feel fine
